"The work she has produced has been of a high standard. She is an artist who is not only able to explore complex ideas but can also translate these visually with great flair. She has a strong sense of design and a sensitive response to materials and is extremely dedicated and committed to her work." H Valentine, Curator of paintings and Sculpture at the Royal Academy of Arts
“Christy Avraam, a graduate of Central St Martin’s, has spent most of her life in North London. She communicates aspects of Freudian Unconscious, telling sociological stories about gender, patriarchy, and the family. She uses a shallow picture plane, strong graphic images and a limited colour palate. Christy is lyrical and romantic, expressing atmosphere of place in an uncomplex, direct manner, drawing the viewer into the picture plane, with fused heavy layers of rich crimson reds and deep blue.” Ann Eastman, Gallery K
Statement
'The awful truth of life, multi layered, paradoxical and contradictory, is revealed from underneath the thin veneer of civilization, through investigation, knowledge and light. I create psychological studies that search for truth without social niceties. The shadow cast of the social interactions before me is far more interesting than the seemingly ordinary situations presented.'
